A roller surface thermocouple is a specialized type of thermocouple designed to measure the surface temperature of moving or rotating objects using a rolling contact mechanism.
🌡️ Working principleIt operates on the Seebeck effect, just like any thermocouple:
- Two dissimilar metals form a sensing junction
- When the junction touches a hot surface, it generates a small voltage
- This voltage corresponds to the surface temperature and is read by a thermometer or controller
What makes it unique is the roller tip, which maintains smooth contact with moving surfaces.
🔧 Key features- Rolling contact wheel (roller) instead of a fixed probe
- Spring-loaded mechanism to ensure consistent contact pressure
- Fast response time for real-time measurement
- Designed to minimize friction and wear

Thermocouple compensating cables are special cables used to connect a thermocouple sensor to a measuring instrument while maintaining acceptable accuracy—but at a lower cost than using full thermocouple-grade (extension) wire.
🌡️ Why they’re neededThermocouples generate a tiny voltage based on temperature difference via the Seebeck effect.
If ordinary copper wire were used for connection, it would introduce additional junctions and errors.
Compensating cables solve this by using alloys that mimic the electrical behavior of the thermocouple within a limited temperature range.
🔧 How they work- They connect the thermocouple to the measuring device (indicator/controller).
- The conductor materials are not identical to the thermocouple, but have similar thermoelectric properties over a specific temperature range (usually ambient conditions).
- This ensures the voltage signal is transmitted with minimal error.
